My Journey

Hey there!
I’m Jowena 👋
About Me
I’m an early learning student, midwife-turned-educator, and a life-long learner!
I grew up on a small farm in the Philippines—planting rice, feeding animals, and learning from nature long before I ever stepped into a classroom. Those early days taught me patience, responsibility, and resilience. Fast forward to today: I’m in Red Deer, Alberta chasing my dreams and finishing my Diploma in Early Learning and Child Care (graduating December 2025! 🎓).
Before this chapter, I was a registered midwife and earned a degree in Psychology. I've gone from supporting children with special needs in the Philippines to spending over a year learning and growing in Canadian child care settings.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe kids learn best when they’re free to explore—but with just the right amount of thoughtful guidance.

My approach is a playful mix of Montessori and Reggio Emilia. I love setting up purposeful materials like Montessori, where children can follow their own rhythm and build independence. But I also draw from Reggio—letting their interests spark projects, ideas, and conversations that grow over time.
Basically, I set the stage, the kids take the lead, and together we turn everyday moments into meaningful learning.✨
On the Horizon
Hopefully, this space becomes more than just my story—it could grow into a little hub for sharing and connection. I’d love for it to become a space where other ELCC educators can share stories, ideas, and build resources together—something simple, heartfelt, and helpful for the work we all love doing.

Thanks for being here. Whether you’re a fellow educator, parent, or just passing through—I'm happy you stopped by 💛
